    Tips & Tricks

How to check the zoom level

Take a look at the URL. The zoom level is always displayed after the latitude and longitude i.e.http://here.com/mapcreator/40.3762093,49.802269,18,0,0,satellite.here.

    up ↑

    Editing roads or places

You can make changes to the map when you’re at the right editing level. For editing roads, you need to be at zoom level 16 or higher, and for places and house numbers, level 18 or higher.

    up ↑

    Adding roads

Start by adding the main roads in a city and add residential roads later. That way, you avoid staggered geocoding, and your work will proceed easier.

    up ↑

Checking to see if the roads are connected

To check whether or not two roads are actually connected at what appears to be junction, select one of the roads. If the node at the junction is a square/diamond then it is connected to at least another road. If the node at the junction is a circle it is not connected to any roads.

Alternatively right-click and choose “Check for junctions”. If the “Check for junctions” option isn’t available (“greyed out”), then all the junctions along the selected road are genuine.

    up ↑

    Building road connections

If your newly created roads are close to existing ones, HERE Map Creator will ask you if you want to connect the links.

    up ↑

    Splitting roads

A road can be split into two by right-clicking on a virtual point and selecting the option ‘Divide into 2 road segments’. This is helpful when introducing bridges, tunnel and speed limit changes.

    up ↑

    Selecting several roads at once

You can select several roads simultaneously. Press and hold the shift key while clicking on the roads you want to select. Then you can:

    • Move them all at the same time

    • Paste properties for all of them at the same time

    • Change their attributes at the same time

    • Delete all of them at the same time

    • Duplicate multiple roads/segments

    up ↑

    Adding bridges and tunnel

If you want to add a bridge or a tunnel to a section of an existing road, use the ‘Divide into 2 road segments’ function (right-clicking on a shape point) to define the beginning and end of the bridge or tunnel. Then set the type of road section to ‘Bridge’ or ‘Tunnel’. Also, add a name if applicable.

When a road also crosses over another road with a bridge or passes under another road with a tunnel, be sure to define the type of crossing: overpass or underpass.

    up ↑

    Defining junctions

Wherever roads cross each other, always define the type of junction. This is especially important for routing and for providing correct turning restrictions. In Map Creator, you can create three types of crossings.

When roads cross at different levels, such as with bridges or tunnels, you can choose:

Overpass - for a road that runs above another road

Underpass - for a road that runs below another road

When the roads cross at the same level, choose:

Intersects with the other road – i.e., the roads physically meet each other. When choosing this option remember to define any turn restrictions.

    up ↑

Using satellite images to build junctions

If you create a new link between roads, use the satellite imagery to see if the new road actually connects to existing roads.

    up ↑

    Editing turn restrictions

To indicate that certain manoeuvres, such as left or right turns, aren’t allowed at an intersection:

    1. Select the road

    2. Double-click on the junction

    3. Toggle between ‘Restricting’ and ‘Allowing access’ by clicking on the ‘Street signs’
